Mojo Makes Pumpkin Pie Out Of Orange

Odessa, TX – Permian celebrated an early Halloween, burning San Angelo Central 42-14 in the District 2-6 clash at Ratliff Stadium on Friday night.

The Panthers kept their playoff hopes alive by jumping out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, and then controlling the second half.  Mojo took the opening kickoff and got on the scoreboard in all of three plays.  Juzstyce Lara capped off a 51-yard TD scamper to set the tone for what would follow.  On the next possession, Noah Adams hauled in a 77-yard catch-and-run to cap another three play scoring drive for a 14-0 lead.

San Angelo coughed up the ensuing kickoff, which led to Lara finding the endzone four plays later to extend the lead to 21-0.  Central tried to answer but the Mojo defense denied the Bobcats at the Permian 10-yard line.

An exchange of punts ushered in the second quarter with quarterback Jakob Garcia and Ben Sandivar connecting on a 59-yard TD strike to push the lead to 28-0.  San Angelo was able to cut into the deficit on a 9-play, 75-yard drive.  After a Permian three-and-out, Central made it a 28-14 ballgame on a 5-play, 76-yard score to send the teams into the intermission break.

The Panthers forced a quick three-play Bobcat possession to open the third stanza.  From there, Permian produced a time consuming 11-play, 76-yard scoring drive, capped with another Lara rushing touchdown.  The Black Cats now enjoyed a 35-14 advantage by quarter’s end.

Lara added one more goal-crossing score to cap-off an 11-play, 65-yard drive early in the fourth quarter.  San Angelo put the pigskin on the turf the following set of downs and Felix Armendariz pounced on it. The Black Cats were unable to convert the miscue into points when a 47-yard field goal attempt came up short.

Conclusion of the contest appropriately ended with Victor Ramirez intercepting the pass attempt and the Mojo defense halting the Bobcat drive as the clock ran out.

Lara finished the night with four rushing touchdowns, while Garcia recorded two passing TDs.  Permian (2-2, 5-4) will close out district with a trip to Midland High (3-1, 8-1) on November 3 at Astound Broadband Stadium.
