Entering the final week of District 2-6A action, there are several scenarios affecting which teams will be advancing to the 2023 Texas Class 6A football playoffs.
Currently, Midland Legacy and Midland High are tied atop the district, with Permian, Frenship, and Odessa High a game back. San Angelo Central is still winless in district. As a result, the Bobcats have been eliminated from post-season contention.
Facing the final week of slated 2-6A games, the district’s head-to-head and point-differential tiebreakers will used to secure the final seeding… and determine whether or not a team will qualify for the state playoffs. Five teams are fighting to clinch one of four spots.
November 3 will feature:

A Permian victory will punch the playoff ticket, while a loss will end the season… unless San Angelo upsets Frenship AND Legacy beats Odessa High (see #6 above).

In the first round of the state playoffs, District 2-6A teams will likely see [1] El Paso Pebble Hills (8-2, 6-2) and [2] El Paso Montwood (5-4, 5-2) in the Division I bracket. [1] El Paso Eastwood (8-1, 7-0) and [2] El Paso Americas (5-4, 4-3) will be in the Division II bracket.
