…And It’s Juzstyce For All

Odessa, TX – While the Mojo defense corralled the Bronchos in the District 2-6A opener, Permian running back Juzstyce Lara executed a three-touchdown performance en route to a 38-7 lashing of Odessa High on Friday night at Ratliff Stadium.

Permian extends the win streak over OHS to nine consecutive, and the showing was witnessed by a sold-out crowd.  The Panthers improve their season record to six wins and no losses, while kicking off the district slate of games with the victory.

After forcing a Broncho three-and-out to begin the contest, Permian began its dominance.  A short OHS punt set up the Panthers on the Odessa High 45.  It would take all of four plays for Mojo to reach paydirt on a Rodney Hall QB keeper.  Permian added a Tate Terry field goal after another OHS three-and-out for a 10-0 first quarter advantage.

The Panthers would produce two touchdown drives in the second quarter, with Lara capping off both for a 24-0 halftime lead.  The first came after Odessa High was denied on four consecutive plays inside the Mojo 5-yard line.  The 17-play, 98-yard drive that followed was capped with Lara bulling his way into the endzone from three yards out.  The second Lara score ended a 14-play drive and the half.

The Panther and Broncho defenses forced short possessions to begin the second half.  Starting on its own seven, Permian chewed up clock and yardage on the second series of the third quarter.  From midfield, Tabarie Jones exploded with a 49-yard TD scamper to push the deficit to 31-0.  On the ensuing kickoff, Odessa High collected its only points of the game on a 90-yard return.

Lara scored his third touchdown in the final stanza that topped the scoring at 38-7.  On the possession, the Black Cats had a 34-yard TD run by Isaac Herrera negated on a holding penalty but they would find the endzone five plays later.

Permian (1-0, 6-0) will return to Ratliff Stadium next Friday to host Midland Legacy (0-1, 2-4) in a storied District 2-6A rivalry.  The Rebels suffered a 49-34 road loss to Frenship tonight.
