Mojo Sends Dawgs To House

Odessa, TX – Permian extended a 10-2 halftime lead over Midland High en route to claiming 31-15 district victory at Ratliff Stadium on Friday.

The win leaves Permian, Midland Legacy, and Frenship each owning a share of the District 2-6A title with matching 4-1 records.  The Panthers and Rebels will compete in Class 6A Division I, while the Tigers and San Angelo Central head to the Division II bracket.

On the game’s opening kickoff, JaQuan Richardson rambled some 92 yards for an apparent touchdown return, but a block in the back penalty scrubbed the effort. Not to be deterred, the Panthers took advantage of the field position with Rodney Hall dishing out a 23-yard touchdown run to give Permian the early lead.  A battle in the trenches would occupy the remainder of the opening stanza for Mojo to own a 7-0 edge.

The Bulldogs found a way to get on the board in the second quarter, but it didn’t come from their offense.  Pinned in its own end of the field, Permian was forced to punt out of the endzone.  The blocked punt was recovered by the Black Cats, but Midland High logged the safety.  Both defensive units limited scoring until Tate Terry nailed a 37-yard field goal as time elapsed on the first half for a 10-2 Mojo advantage.

The Bulldogs utilized a 49-yard busted run to open the second half to cut the deficit to 10-8.  Not to be outdone, Hall reeled off a 49-yarder of his own to set the Panthers up just outside the goal line.  Juzstyce Lara banged it in for a Mojo touchdown that capped off a 6-play, 74-yard drive. Lara would revisit the endzone one more time in the quarter to give the Black Cats a 24-8 lead.

Jyzaiyah Solis contributed a 10-yard TD run midway into the final period for the final Permian tally.  Midland High managed to answer that score as time ran out for the 31-15 Mojo victory.

Permian (9-1) will make the long trip west to El Paso to start the 2022 playoff run.  Mojo will play Pebble Hills (9-1) at the SISD Student Activities Complex next Friday at 4:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
