Black Cats Haunt Angry Orange

San Angelo, TX – On a breezy MOJOween night, Permian took over in the second half to outclaw the Central Bobcats 43-31 in the District 2-6A showcase at San Angelo Stadium.

Permian’s Juzstyce Lara racked up five rushing touchdowns in the winning effort.  The Mojo defense joined the party and shutout the Bobcat offense to keep them off of the scoreboard in the second half.

Central looked well prepared to defend its home field and set the tone early.  On the second play of the game, the Bobcats unleashed a 91-yard catch-and-run for a quick 7-0 lead.  On the ensuing kickoff, Jadyn Pruitt peeled off a long return to have the Panthers set up shop at the Central 10.  Lara capped off the short scoring drive, but the extra point was blocked leaving Mojo trailing by a point.

Lara once again reached paydirt on the next possession for Mojo’s first lead.  A two-point conversion gave the Black Cats a 14-7 advantage.  The following Central possession was cut short when Pruitt intercepted a long pass just inside the redzone, but Permian was unable to cash in on the turnover.  The Bobcats added a field goal on the next set of downs to narrow the deficit to 14-10 after one quarter of play.

Central found its groove and added three touchdowns, including big plays of 75, 50, and 45 yards, in the second stanza.  Fueled by a pair of short TD runs by Lara, Permian added two scores of its own.  The Panthers trailed 31-28 at the intermission break, but that would soon change.

The Mojo defense shut down the potent Bobcat offense in the second half.  Permian regained the lead in the third quarter on Lara’s fifth touchdown run of the game.  The Panthers tacked an insurance TD to the scoreboard in the fourth frame for the 43-31 district win.

The Black Cats will close out the regular season slate hosting Midland High next week at Ratliff Stadium.  Odessa High will visit Midland Legacy, while San Angelo Central makes the long drive to Frenship on Finale Friday.

Permian, Legacy, and Frenship all sit atop the district with 3-1 records and have qualified for post-season play.  The Bobcats also qualify due to the head-to-head win over Midland High.
