With a 28-14 victory over Aldine, the Panthers secured the 1989 Class 5A State Champion title on Saturday afternoon in Texas Stadium. Permian won 12 games, while suffering three losses, in the 1988 season. The Panthers lost to Marshall 13-12 in a non-district game. A 22-21 district loss to Midland Lee resulted in a coin flip to decide post-season advancement. Mojo’s state title run was cut one game short after a 14-9 playoff loss to Dallas Carter. Odessa Permian 1988 Roster
The 1988 Permian Panthers finished with a 5-1 record (12-3 overall) and were District Champions. Mojo made it to the State Semifinals, where the playoff run would come to an end with a 14-9 loss to Dallas Carter at Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. Midland, TX — On a damp Thursday night, turnovers came by the bucketful. The District 4-5A battle between Permian and Midland Lee remained scoreless through one half of football. It was the Panthers that pulled out a 13-7 win at Memorial Stadium.
Permian, French Share Texas 5A Title
Irving, TX — Permian and Beaumont French met in Texas Stadium to lay claim to the 1984 State Champion crown. The Panthers (15-0) entered the contest as the top-ranked team in Texas, while many wondered if the Buffaloes would even be able to stay in the game. No one anticipated the game would end in a bittersweet 21-21 tie.

Irving, TX — Trailing 19-7 at the half, Permian shut down Port Arthur Jefferson’s high-powered offense to claim a 28-19 decision in the 1980 Class 5A State Championship at Texas Stadium. Permian slapped 21 unanswered point on the scoreboard in the second half.
