The Panthers (15-0) entered the contest as the top-ranked team in Texas, while many wondered if the Buffaloes would even be able to stay in the game. No one anticipated the game would end in a bittersweet 21-21 tie.

Irving, TX — Trailing 19-7 at the half, Permian shut down Port Arthur Jefferson’s high-powered offense to claim a 28-19 decision in the 1980 Class 5A State Championship at Texas Stadium. Permian slapped 21 unanswered point on the scoreboard in the second half.

Irving, TX — For the second straight year, Plano stood in the way of Permian playing for the Class 4A State Championship. In 1977, the Wildcats knocked the Panthers out of the playoffs in the Semifinal Round, 3-0. The difference of a field goal again halted a Mojo State Final appearance in the 6-3 loss at Texas Stadium on Saturday.
