Stephens-Deary hauled in four touchdown passes from Harper Terry and another from Zach Wheeler. The five TD receptions set a new single-game record in the Mojo football history book.
The Mojo defense stifled Odessa High from the start, forcing the Bronchos into three-and-outs on five of their six first half possessions. The Panthers held OHS to negative rushing yards and a little over 100 yards of total offense. Permian, on the other hand, racked up a pair of touchdowns in three of the four quarters, and finished the game with an excess of 500 offensive yards.
Permian got on the board first on a 32-yard TD strike from Terry to Stephens-Deary with the Panthers facing a 4th-and-7 on the opening drive. On the next set of downs for Mojo, Terran Limuel capped off a 5-play scoring drive from 13 yards out on a reverse for a 14-0 first quarter lead.
The Panthers opened the second quarter with a 79-yard Terry pass to cap the three-play effort. A 27-yarder from Terry to Stephens-Deary gave Permian a comfortable 28-0 halftime advantage.
The ‘Terry to Stephens-Deary’ Show needed just three plays to add another score to open the third stanza. After an exchange of punts, Odessa High made their lone endzone appearance on a 35-yard strike from Diego Cervantes to Daymien Jordan after starting on the Permian side of the 50.
On the very next play from scrimmage, Stephens-Deary turned a medium range pass into a 79-yard dagger to give the Panthers a 42-7 third quarter lead. Mojo could have extended the deficit even wider to close the period, but a 74-yard romp by Rodney Hall was negated by a penalty.
Permian went one-for-two in field goal attempts in the game’s final quarter to cap the scoring at 45-7. The final was not contested and Odessa High did not want a recount.
Limuel led all rushers with 73 yards from seven carries, with Lucas Salazar finishing with five touches for 68 yards. Terry accounted for 172 yards through the air and another 30 by ground. Stephens-Deary’s record night produced 226 yards receiving from the five receptions.
Permian will host Midland High next Friday back here at Ratliff Stadium, and then make a road trip to San Angelo to face Central Bobcats on November 20. It will be the district finale for the Panthers, while the Bobcats will have to travel to Midland Lee on November 27.
