Mojo Defeathers Falcons In Shutout Victory

ODESSA — After jumping out to a 28-0 halftime lead, Permian continued the lashing with a 56-0 shutout victory over Los Fresnos in the Mojo non-district finale at Ratliff Stadium.

Permian’s Ed Williams scored three touchdowns and rushed for 139 yards on offense, while Chase Stell recorded a pair of interceptions (including a pick-6) on defense in the lopsided affair.

Permian took the opening drive 70 yards downfield before fumbling and coming up short at the Falcon 15.  The Mojo defense took the field and forced Los Fresnos into a three-and-out.  After a short punt, The Panthers set up shop near midfield.  Eight plays later, Peyton Powell connected with Justin Hammond on a 21-yard touchdown strike for an early 7-0 lead.  On the next series of downs, Rakeeb Adeyemi stopped Los Fresnos dead in their tracks with an intercepted pass at the Falcon 28.

Powell capped off a five-play scoring drive to start the second quarter.  The Panthers and Falcons traded possessions without producing any points.  Williams changed that when he made his way into the endzone for his first TD of the game late in the quarter.  After another short Los Fresnos punt, Mojo setup its offense at the 30.  Four plays later, Powell found Mason Sellers on a 35-yarder to extend the lead to 28-0.  That tally would last into the intermission.

Permian continued to pour it on in the third quarter.  Williams scored his second touchdown on a 3-yard run to cap off an 8-play, 73-yard drive.  He would ramble his way right back into the endzone after the Panthers took over near midfield on the next series of downs… this time to cap a 3-play scoring drive for a third TD in the game.

Not to be outdone, the Permian defense continued to flex its muscle late in the third quarter.  Stell first intercepted a pass at the 44-yard line and returned it to the Falcon 5.  From there, Adam Martinez crossed the goal line to make it a 49-0 ballgame.  On the next possession, Stell returned his second interception for a pick-6 from 35 yards out to end the quarter.

A total of one possession by each team consumed the fourth and final stanza.  The Panthers ended the non-district slate with the 56-0 blanking of Los Fresnos.  Permian will have a bye next week before starting the district run.  Mojo will host Odessa High on October 12 at Ratliff Stadium.
