SAN ANTONIO – The annual THSCA Coaching School and Convention was held in San Antonio from July 21-24. New Mojo football head coach Jeff Ellison was in attendance. He and Texas Football Today host Greg Tepper sat down to talk a little football future for the Permian Panthers as the 2018 season approaches.
The two discussed the departure of Blake Feldt and the adversity that has presented itself over the last week. Ellison praised the school district for hiring within and keeping the coaching staff intact. Assistants will continue their roles from the previous season.
Coach Ellison interviewed on Texas Football Today – July 23, 2018
Ellison inherits a team filled with talent. Running back Ed Williams is returning. Peyton Powell transferred from Midland Christian to Permian in the Spring and looks to work his way into the starting quarterback role of an offense that has the ability to rack up yards through the air and on the ground. He started for the Rangers the past two seasons. Mojo averaged over 38 points a game last year and finished the season with a 9-2 record.
The Panthers return a defense that played lights out in the 2017 season, limiting their opponents to an average of 18 points a game. The first practice is on August 13, with a scrimmage against Lubbock Cooper following on August 24. The season home opener is slated for August 31 against the DeSoto Eagles at Ratliff Stadium.
