When you open the game with a little trickery that nets a 52-yard touchdown, you know things are about to go your way. On the first play of the game, quarterback Kayden Vickers flipped a lateral to receiver Aaron Navarrete. He in turn found a wide open Dae Dae McDowell down the right sideline for the game’s first points.
The ensuing possession watched Tascosa mount a 13-play, 75-yard scoring drive that would knot the contest at 7-7. The two teams would exchange punts to fill the remainder of the first quarter.
Vickers would find the endzone on a two-yard run to open the second stanza. It would cap-off a 9-play, 79-yard effort to extend the lead to 14-7. From there the Mojo Defense took over the game. The Panthers would convert a Rebel fumble into more points when Mark Herrera bulled his way across the goaline two plays later.
Jace Thompson added a 17-yard TD scamper for Permian to take a 28-7 halftime lead into the locker room. Tascosa was penalized six times in the first half to add to their woes.
Defense ruled the second half. After forcing a 3-and-out to open the third quarter, the Panthers gathered up an 8-play, 40-yard scoring drive with Cayden Taylor rambling 17 yards to push the tally to 35-7. The ‘Mojo D’ continued to dominate the line of scrimmage. Nata Cardoza collected his first interception of 2026, but the Panthers were unable to convert that into points late in the quarter.
Iker Munoz had a busy night, kicking five extra points and adding a 34-yard field goal to cap-off scoring in the 38-7 Black Cat victory.
Permian produced 299 yards of total offense, while the Mojo defense held the Rebels to 207 yards all night. Vickers completed five of his 11 passes for 107 yards. Taylor rushed for 54 yards on nine carries, while McDowell finished the night with 75 yards receiving including the touchdown.
Permian will travel to Killeen next Friday for a meeting with Harker Heights at 7:00 p.m.
