The Mojo offense scored on seven of its nine possessions, and the punting unit never graced the field. Permian marched 65 yards on the opening drive for the only score in the first quarter. Gavin Black capped off the 9-play scoring effort with a short touchdown run for a 7-0 lead.
The Panthers ushered in the scoring fest with a consuming 16-play, 99-yard TD drive to start the second stanza. Odessa High was able to answer with a scoring drive of its own to keep the deficit to seven points at 14-7. On a 4th-and-3, OHS turned a wide receiver screen into a 48-yard catch-and-run TD. It was all Mojo from there as the Bronchos would never cross the goal line the remainder of the contest.
Jakob Garcia threw two touchdown passes before the teams would reach intermission. Cayden Hernandez caught one TD pass of 49 yards, and Cason Nabarrette added a 43-yard touchdown reception for Permian to sit on a 28-7 halftime lead.
The White Cats extended the lead in the third quarter behind two more touchdown passes – one from Garcia to Hernandez of 26 yards and one from Kayden Vickers to Aaron Navarette of 24 yards. The Bronchos now trailed 42-7.
In the final 12 minutes, Mark Herrera capped off a 6-play, 52-yard scoring drive with a TD scamper from 12 yards out. Iker Munoz also attempted a 56-yard field goal attempt, but it came up just a little shy in the 49-7 Mojo thumping of Litl’ Red Ponies. Cross town bragging rights stays on the eastside of Odessa for yet another year.
On the night, Garcia was 14-of-20 with three touchdown passes, while Gavin Black finished with two rushing TDs. Cayden Hernandez was the recipient of two receiving touchdowns.
The Panthers (5-1, 1-0) will host San Angelo Central (3-3, 0-1) next Friday night back here at Ratliff Stadium. The Bobcats lost to Midland Legacy, 58-42. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
