The Panthers opened the game going three-and-out. The Eagles took advantage of the field position and put together a 4-play, 37-yard scoring drive for a 7-0 lead. The two teams exchanged punts the remainder of the quarter.
Permian looked on track to even the score early in the second stanza, but a fumble would end the drive on the 27-yard line. After forcing another Abilene punt, the Black Cars cranked out a 3-play, 55-yard scoring drive that would be capped off by Gavin Black midway in the quarter to knot the tally at 7-7.
On the next possession, the Panthers took a 14-7 lead on a 4-yard Jakob Garcia keeper. A bad snap on an Eagles punt lead to Garcia connecting with Cameron Mattingly on a 4-yard strike for a Black Cat 21-7 lead to end the first half.
The Mojo defense dished out a three-and-out to open the second half. Taking over near midfield, Permian had a 31-yard pass negated and had to settle with a field goal…. a 54-yard Iker Munoz effort to push the score to 24-7.
The exchange of a pair of touchdowns filled the fourth period. Alexx Cruz hauled in a 25-yard pass, and Black added another short TD run. Kayden Vickers uncorked a 68-yard bomb to setup the final Black touchdown run.
The Black Cats will travel to Amarillo next Thursday night for a date with the Tascosa Rebels at Dick Bivins Stadium.
