Irving, TX — For the second straight year, Plano stood in the way of Permian playing for the Class 4A State Championship. In 1977, the Wildcats knocked the Panthers out of the playoffs in the Semifinal Round, 3-0. The difference of a field goal again halted a Mojo State Final appearance in the 6-3 loss at Texas Stadium on Saturday.
Season Ends On Lone Field Goal
Lubbock, TX — Permian entered the contest undefeated at 13-0. The Panthers finished the game leading every statistical category. However, a Plano first quarter field goal was good enough to claim a 3-0 win in the Class 4A State Semifinal game at Jones Stadium.
How Sweet It Is At Top
Austin, TX — Permian left no doubt who was 1972’s best in the state in Class 4A, after handing Baytown Sterling a 37-7 lashing in UT’s Memorial Stadium. This is the second State Champion crown for the Panthers. They also won a state title in 1965.
Permian Wins State Crown, 11-6
San Angelo, TX — Playing in the rain, on a muddy grass field, and temperatures near freezing, the Panthers were ready to take on all elements… that would include opponent San Antonio Lee.
