EL PASO — After jumping out to a 41-0 halftime lead, Permian never looked back in the 61-0 lopsided shutout of the El Paso Franklin Cougars on Friday night at Franklin Stadium. Mojo quarterback Steve Steen made his presence known, scoring three rushing touchdowns and throwing three TD passes in the first half alone.
Permian Rallies Past Vandegrift
AUSTIN — Despite three first half turnovers, Permian rallied in the second half to defeat Austin Vandegrift 21-20 on Friday night at Monroe Memorial Stadium. Kobe Robinson scored two of the three Mojo touchdowns to lift the Panthers past the Vipers in a non-district clash to start the season.
Mojo State Champion Coach Passes
LIBERTY HILL — Legendary player and former Permian head coach Gil Bartosh passed on June 4 at the age of 86. Bartosh was born in 1930 and mentored the Panthers in the 1971-72 seasons, which included a state championship.
Permian 1988 Football Schedule
Permian won 12 games, while suffering three losses, in the 1988 season. The Panthers lost to Marshall 13-12 in a non-district game. A 22-21 district loss to Midland Lee resulted in a coin flip to decide post-season advancement. Mojo’s state title run was cut one game short after a 14-9 playoff loss to Dallas Carter. Mojo Wins Blizzard Bowl
Odessa, TX — Slick roads and six inches of snow last night caused a postponement of the annual Permian-Odessa High crosstown rivalry game. With a high temperature of 24 degrees, weather didn’t stop 19,000 fans from witnessing Mojo beat the Wild Bunch 14-6 this afternoon at W. T. Barrett Stadium.
