Panthers Rip Jaguars In Road Win

Mesquite, TX – In a game that was scheduled at the last minute, it didn’t seem to bother Permian to make the trek across the state to play Mesquite Horn.  Hanby Stadium hosted the non-district lopsided contest with the Panthers blasting the Jaguars 51-10.

The Panthers utilized their first two possessions to establish a 14-0 first quarter.  Mojo’s opening drive consisted of seven running plays that was capped off with quarterback Harper Terry cruising into the endzone from 17 yards out.  Permian’s defense limited the Jaguars to five plays and a punt.  It ensuing Black Cat drive took all of two plays.  After a short gainer, Shy Stephens-Deary unleashed a 67-yard touchdown scamper for the two score lead.

Horn would test the defense early in the second frame.  On a 4th-and-4 in the Permian end of the field, the Jaguars came up empty.  Wasting no time, the Panthers reeled off eight plays that would end as Terry connected with Terran Limuel on a 32-yard TD strike. Permian was able to avoid a miscue on its next possession when a punt return was muffed but recovered.  On the next play from scrimmage, Terry’s pass was intercepted to give Horn another set of downs.  The Jaguars were able to get on the board with a field goal to cut the Mojo lead to 21-3.

The Panthers extended the deficit three plays later when Terry found Limuel on a 40-yarder for another score.  After forcing a fumble, the Mojo offense set up shop on the Jaguar 11-yard line.  Tristan Johnson found paydirt on a two-yard run to give Permian a 35-3 halftime lead.

An exchange of punts would usher in the third quarter.  On Horn’s second possession, the Mojo defense crushed the quarterback in the endzone for a safety.  Following the free kick, Permian used five plays for Terry to cross the goal line on a 15-yard trot to push the Panther lead to 44-3.  The defense shined again when Amarion Garrett nabbed a Jags pass near midfield.  The interception would allow Mojo to carry the ensuing drive into the fourth quarter.  It would be capped by a Lucas Salazar 13-yard touchdown run to give the Black Cats their 51 point tally.

The hosting Jaguars were able to finally score their lone touchdown late in the 51-10 non-district contest.  Terry had a productive night, finishing with 261 total yards and accounting for five Mojo touchdowns.  The Panthers will be back on the road next Friday as they finish the non-district slate with former district foe Amarillo Tascosa.
